LMP or U/S more accurate for due date?

I had two appointments today - one with fetal maternal medicine and one with my OB.

They have my due dates as 5 days apart.  (They have since the beginning)

My OB says June 10th.
My FMM doc says June 5th. <--- This is my favorite one

FMM says his was based on my last menstrual period (28 day cycle).

OB says he based it on an ultrasound taken at 5 weeks 3 days and measurement of the baby at that time.

Which is more accurate?  My last menstrual period or the actual ultrasound?

I would think ultrasound (to my disappointment) but then again they always say ultrasounds are just "estimates" of baby size ?!?!

Anyway.....either way I am READY to have this baby !!   How to I speed him along?!?   The FMM who did the U/S said he is baked....his lungs are working, his head is down and any time I'm ready he can be born.  I am ready.  But I need to convince the little guy of that.....

Thanks for your input!

Cindy

Hi Cindy,
With my DS he was born a day before the very first due date we were ever given (LMP).  Of course, every baby is different.
I remember those last weeks and just wanting to be done but hectic times are ahead.  Try to relax and take time for yourself and DH with this last remaining time for the two of you (at least for quite awhile).
Good luck for a healthy and speedy delivery.

Well that's a good question.  I'm pretty much going through the same thing right with my OB and the ultrasound tech.  If you go by the 1st day of my last period my due date is November 26th.  If you go by what the baby measures on the ultrasound my due date is December 9th.

The baby was measuring 2 weeks smaller but now, is only measuring 1 week smaller.  So, I dunno what's right and what's wrong.  I know as of now my due date is December 9th but, if the baby starts measuring bigger then I'm guessing he will move my due date back to November 26th.

I'm just going with the flow for now......I know either way this baby is coming out no matter what day it's due or born!  LOL

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Ash :)

The earlier the ultrasound the more accurate they are. After 24 weeks babies put on weight at different rates but before that they are usually all the same size. My naturally born children were born within 5 days of their due date with the exception of one who was 17 days late. They necropsied the placenta on her because it was so deteriorated. Since this is your first you will most likely go a few days late so just prepare yourself for the later due date!

Even though you might be miserable, we are only pregnant for such a short period of time in our lives, and only 9 months pregnant even shorter. Try to enjoy every moment and every movement.

I had my due date figured at 12/12/08 by my LMP... However the first U/S I had dated him to 12/19/08..... He was born on 12/13/08.... So since I was regular with my cycle, I stuck with saying I was due on 12/12/08...

I don't know how to tell you to speed him along at all but have heard stories about ways to increase the chances.... For example, having sex or getting lots of exercise supposedly speeds things along...

I personally gave my son an "eviction" notice the week he was due to be born... I was being kicked on night & I swear his feet were up under my ribs so I told him "That's it, you gotta move out by the end of the week!!!".... Sure enough, I went into labor early Friday morning and he came into the world on Saturday.... LOL

I don't know.  I'm going through something similar.

I am pretty certain I'm due 12/18.  the u/s tech did an ABDOMINAL u/s (not a transvaginal) when I was supposed to be 6w 6d.  she said I measured 6 w exactly.  that my due date would be 12/25.  well my daughter was due 12/25 and since we were actually trying with her, i know exactly what day I ovulated.  4/3/06.  so I would have had to ovulate around the same day for this one then but I had a positive test on 4/7/09.  so HOW could I have had a positive test 4 days after conception???

I think my u/s is OFF!!

Well, I ovulated on March 16th, and had a calculated date of Dec 8 from that, I think the exact same with my LMP. I thought I was about 6 weeks at my first US, but they think I was more like 4, because 3 weeks later they measured and decided my due date is Dec 21. Which makes the date of conception about March 30th! I guess we'll just wait and see!

I'm with the ultrasound - with me, I had a month of a skipped period - so my LMP is completely irrelevant.

I mean, if you aren't regular, how can they use that anyway?  Go with the earlier date :)

And keep walking and moving and doing all that you can - he'll arrive soon enough (then again, this advice is coming from a woman whose two children were each 10 days late LOL).

Good luck!!!!

My RE uses LMP...but they do compair that and u/s the entire way through.  Baby measured behind by a couple of days on and off through the pregnancy...but LMP due date was 7/11.  My water broke 7/11 and she was here 7/12.  I remember that feeling oh so well- it's almost time.
